Back to church

Corsock and Kirkpatrick Durham Parish Church

The Kirk Session has decided to recommence Sunday Services, however, at present only Kirkpatrick Durham Church will be open for weekly worship. The first service will be on Sunday 27 September at 10.00am finishing at around 10.30am (please note change from usual time) and will continue weekly at that time for the immediate future. The Church of Scotland has produced detailed guidelines on how services can be conducted as safely as possible under current circumstances, and we draw your attention to the points made below, to both reassure and encourage you, should you wish to attend:-

1.      You should enter the church by the front door and follow the one-way system in operation.

  1. Unless you have a reasonable excuse you will be required to wear a face covering at all times when in the church.
  2. You will be required to leave your name and a contact phone number when arriving.
  3. You will be required to maintain a two metre social distance from others whilst in the church building and surrounding grounds.
  4. You will be asked to sanitise your hands on entering and leaving the building and should touch as few surfaces as possible.
  5. You may be asked to sit in a specific seat.
  6. While music will be played, singing will not be permitted. Hymn books will not be required or available.
  7. Pew bibles will not be available so you should bring a bible with you if you wish.
  8. Online giving is preferred but there will be a collection plate on entering the building.
  9. Tea and coffee will not be served after the service.
  10. The downstairs toilet will be available.
  11. At the end of the service, and in order to maintain social distancing, you may be asked to leave in a set order. You should leave using the one-way system, sanitise your hands on the way out and wash your hands when you get home.

There is a maximum of 30 people allowed for the service. Whilst we do not anticipate this being an issue, if you wish to pre-book a seat please do so by contacting the session clerk. We would particularly ask you to do this if you have family or friends visiting and they will be attending.

Please consider your own health and condition. If you are considered vulnerable you may wish to delay returning to church till a later date. There are many factors that may make you “vulnerable” including being 70 or over, having a chronic respiratory disease or diabetes. (See Church of Scotland Covid-19 Reopening of Church Buildings Guidelines, Appendix 4 if in doubt)

We wish to support you in your choice to participate in church life that meets your own needs and preferences whilst safeguarding your own health safety and welfare as well as the wider congregation and community. Please contact Sally if you wish to further discuss church “out-with our walls”.
